As you probably guessed it, I am Yanik Turgeon. I was born in Canada in 1975. I have been working with students and children all my life. At age 10, I was looking over the kindergarteners at recess. As a teenager, I worked at the youth shelter.
I completed a teaching degree from University of Alberta. I directed my studies on how to teach students a second language. In Canada, teaching French to English-speaking students. The French Immersion Route.
I taught English and French in Japan, Argentina and Canada. I also taught Spanish in Canada. In Taiwan, I have been teaching English and French. I like to laugh, travel, play outside. I love food, mountains and snow. My favorite color is orange. And you?
When teaching, my first priority is to make all the parties involved happy. Which means, making sure my students are happy, enjoying themselves and having fun discovering a new language. If the students are young, I make sure the parents are happy. I make sure I am happy and having fun. Only a happy teacher and make its students happy.
Teaching is all about adapting to the style of the students. To their "Intelligence Type". Some students learn from singing, some from drawing and some other from moving their body. Most learn from a variety of activities that activate different types of "intelligence".
I like to make teaching a language more like a treasure hunt where the learner is discovering the language. Not a sit down setting where the teacher is pushing knowledge down to the student. How could a student be happy and enjoy this new language?
